Gathering Blue, by Lois Lowry

As you probably know, I am reading Gathering Blue, by lois Lowry. Kira's mother dies, and she has to restart her life as an orphan. The ways she does it shows a lot of maturity.
She is used to her mom supplying for her, but she knows she needs to do that herself now. Most small children probably wouldn't know what to do. Kira probably doesn't either, but she tries everything, hoping one will help. She continues gardening, for food, and then she tries to get a job and succeeds, the reason I find this impressive is because Kira was aware of her embroidery talent, and she takes advantage of it to help her. Getting a job can be difficult, but Kira tries anyway.
In conclusion, Kira teaches us that even when dealing with serious things you need to do what ever you can to help yourself recover, Kira is doing very well now, even as an orphan.
